On 4 th January 2008, Rich Frost was informed that he was among the winners of the Lucozade Video challenge and had won a place in the 2008 Flora London Marathon. He very generously nominated Yayasan Gunungan to receive the funds raised from sponsoring him, which will be used to help support the children at the Refuge.
Rich did a superb run and finished the grueling 26.2 miles in 4 hours 26 mins 26 secs. In doing so he managed to raise more than £1,500 for the children which is amazing. Very many grateful thanks to Rich and to all those who sponsored him for your support.

Land Donation |

Very many thanks to Nova Furniture, a local furniture company, for donating over 2,200 square meters of land to the Yayasan. This will be the location to start building the new Children's Refuge Center hopefully later on this year. It is a beautiful location in the country overlooking a peaceful lake, but conveniently within a short bus ride of Solo City .
The first buildings to be constructed will be the Organization's main office and 3 Children's Family Houses, along with a small farm, warehouse and sport & activity areas. In the coming years we then plan to build more Family Houses up to a total of 12, eventually with a total capacity for approximately 120 children. After that we hope to construct a senior citizen's retirement home as well as a halfway house for women in distress.
It is an ambitious plan, but one that can be taken in manageable steps over a number of years. Hopefully the Center will provide a safe, relaxed and stable environment for all who stay there while making available many professional and personal development opportunities.

Latest Support |
Latest support for the Refuge has come from a number of areas as follows:
The Solo Expats Association (SEA) continue to run a number of regular fund raising events with the proceeds going towards the Children's Refuge. Previous events have included auction nights and organic rice sales.
The British Community Committee in Jakarta (BCC) began to generously send regular monthly amounts to help cover the Children's living and schooling costs.
Nova Furniture in Solo and Cirebon continue to be significant donators of furniture stock for the Charity Shop with the proceeds going towards the Refuge.
Absormatic Indonesia , manufacturers of the humidity absorber ‘Absordry', have set up a customer donation plan, where a fixed amount from sales to certain customers, who agree to be enrolled, is donated on their behalf to the Refuge.
Five local export companies have signed up for this plan so far.
